Whatever you do don't purchase from…

Whatever you do don't purchase from this place, it is next to impossible to find a decent restaurant to redeem the money and if you do find one there are so many restrictions it is not funny. I still have credits in my account from 6 years ago that I still have not been able to spend. The App is just about as crappy as the choice's of restaurants. Run away from this site fast and hard don't look back because it keeps getting worse.

Calling multiple times and never an answer...emailing "help" gets nowhere...you just receive a standard automatic response. There is no place else to inquire or report problems..so if you're lucky enough to use your certificates..congrats! Otherwise take the loss like the rest of us suckers.

Miller and Carter Worcester Park not value for money

Booked a birthday dinner at M&C Worcester Park, disappointed with my Black Angus Sirloin was chewy and came as not medium rare as ordered. My husband full rack of ribs tasted as boiled ribs covered with sauce. The garlic mushrooms with no trace of garlic taste. Chunk chip tastes like oven chips. We specific requested Tartifletter with no pancetta for 2 Vegans. But it came with bits of pancetta. The waiter should knows that Tartifletter is cooked in a batch with pancetta and not suitable for Vegetarian/Vegan. Creme Brulee is runny not set, panna cotta don't taste like it, knickerbocker glory sundae also runny. All the desserts are overly sweet. Overall we are disappointed with the quality and service. Not value for money.

Coupons do not work anywhere local

Got a small coupon from restaurant.com to try them out. The restaurant said they cut ties with the org "years ago". The only option that was local to swap a coupon with listed on their website said they had never honored their coupons. Glad I was only out a few bucks.

COMPANY IS A TOTAL SCAM!!!!!

I ordered 2 items form their "SPECIALS" menu 7 Oct. Have not received items by 21 Dec. Finally found tele # for them on Google. (there is no way to contact them on their site). After a 15 minute wait the Rep told me that I was supposed to go to a partner site that was shipping the order and put in my address. I was never told this when I placed the order, and had given Restaurant.com my address at the time of order. I was informed that the order was final and NO refund. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THESE PEOPLE......

Q:

why do you have so many reviews saying this site is a scam??

A:

I believe it is perception. People believe they are purchasing a gift certificate which it is not. It is simply a coupon that is so incredibly good for the consumer that many businesses decide to stop participating.

by Tammy171 - December 02, 2019

A:

Terms of use make it nearly impossible to redeem gift cards.

by Lorraine R474 - January 10, 2019

A:

I don't think people realize how this whole "scheme" works. (Optionally) First, you acquire a restaurant.com gift card that you or someone else purchased for you. Typical cost is $4 cash per $25 restaurant.com gift card. You then proceed to the restaurant.com website where you realize, soon enough, that your $25 gift card is no more than a coupon to purchase a $25 coupon from a "participating" restaurant. Without a gift card, their direct (no gift card) website prices are typically, $10 cash per $25 restaurant coupon. If all of this is confusing, I'm sure it's meant to be. Continuing, $25 is not really $25. Typically, the said restaurant will require you to spend double the face value of the redeemed coupon, in REAL, out of pocket cash at the restaurant to pay the balance due. NOTE: The restaurant.com gift card is NOT directly redeemable at the restaurant! So, armed with a $25 coupon/voucher you purchased from the restaurant.com website, you must order $50 worth of food (drinks may or may not be included in the purchase requirement). This will ultimately cost you $4-10 (for the restaurant.com gift card/voucher) + $25 of REAL, out of pocket cash. And, all of the above assumes that the restaurant you want to patronize is even on their "participants" list. Further, even if they are supposedly a "participant", they may not be, as reported by MANY commenters. Many restaurants have never heard of restaurant.com and (respectfully?) decline the presented coupon. If you make it through all that, the restaurant is most likely distressed, financially shaky or overpriced to begin with. BUYER BEWARE, BIG TIME! Also notice all the 1 star reviews. They would probably be 0 stars if that was an option. At least you can now make a more informed decision. Good luck.

Q:

where is a list Which restaurants take the gift card?

A:

The list probably doesn't exist. Call any restaurant on the list prior to purchasing or going to the restaurant to see if they will take it. By trial and error, I found some that accept it and some that don't.

by Garcia576 - July 25, 2019

A:

Contrary to restaurants.com claim, no restaurants accept them that I know of. They're a scam.

by Kim592 - August 17, 2017

A:

No restaurants directly accept the gift card at the restaurant.

Answer This Question

Q:

How do I get a human being to answer my complaint? I bought four vouchers to a restaurant and drove 40 min there and back to use one. They wouldn't accept it and said they never authorized "restaurant.com" to put their restaurant on their website! So, I've been emailing and trying to call for months! Nobody will help me!

A:

SAME THING HERE! I've continually attempted to alert Restaurant.com about a place that refused to take a recently issued certificate and their online contact page will not work!

by Rhonda L. - October 22, 2018

A:

Definitely a scam. They offered coupons for our restaurant without our approval or permission. We had to turn the customers away because we never authorized the coupons.

by Elliott - August 17, 2017

A:

I have a reataurant and I NEVER authorized these coupons, and will NOT honor them! I have physically spoken on the phone with them SEVERAL times AND sent out noumorous emails! Still, coupons remain on there website! As much as $50 off a meal! I am a small business and can NOT afford to accept these coupons, plus, why the hell does this site bank on consumers money that was paid to use against these small businesses? The businesses do not get a penny, instead maybe a few new faces! It's a multimillion dollar scam. It's sad the money they've cashed in already on this poorly ran system > :(

First, to respond to the impolite assertions of Lawrence P, I can read just fine, thank you, and I don't sign a HIPPA form without reading it thoroughly. My patience and ability to pay attention are fine. It isn't nice to make assumptions about people you don't know. Second, I don't know where some of the folks responding live, but where I am the restaurants pull out of restaurant.com before we can use a certificate. Returning a certificate has become impossible since there is no longer a phone number. I would not spend months of my precious time with restaurant.com. Some of the restaurants are not as advertised. Let's just say that walking through a gaggle of kid spitting and smoking at the restaurant's front door turned our stomachs. Additionally, the eateries rarely change and many are just too far away. Fortunately, we didn't lose any money on this as when we started there was a crazy good deal and we got $400 on the site for $40. We did make back our $40. If I had to do it over, I wouldn't go near it.

A:

Simply because most people (like me) do not take the time to research them first. Only after getting burned do they research and find what this company is really about. If you read ALL the fine print first, you will understand what you are getting into and will be prepared.

I have an old gift certificate that I just found while I was packing up to move. I checked the restaurant and they have closed. I have been trying to exchange it but the web site is not connecting. What should I do?

A:

You could try calling them at (800) 979-8985, but good luck with that.
